Contact a Family is the only national charity that exists to support the families of disabled children whatever their condition or disability. Their vision is that families with disabled children are empowered to live the lives they want and achieve their full potential, for themselves, for the communities they live in, and for society.
The Family Fund is the UK’s largest provider of grants to low-income families raising disabled and seriously ill children and young people. The Family Fund aims to ease the additional pressures families face by providing help with essential items such as washing machines, fridges and clothing and will also consider grants for sensory toys, computers and much needed family breaks together.

Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order. ERIC is a national registered charity providing support and information to children, teenagers, parents,carers and health professionals on toilet training, bedwetting, daytime wetting, soiling and constipation. ERIC has a series of information leaflets available to download from the ERIC website:
Family Lives aims to support parents with any difficulties that they may be experiencing with their children.
The Family Lives helpline is run by parent volunteers who have been trained to listen. This may be all the supportthat is needed. If further support is necessary they also run parenting sessions and workshops and operate a referral system.
