A Welcome from the Headteacher
On behalf of the whole community at Southfield School (Pupils, Staff, Governors, Families and Friends) I would like to welcome you to our website. I hope you find the information in the site helpful. If there are any questions that you would like to ask us that our site doesn’t answer, please don’t hesitate to contact the school directly. We are always happy to help.
Southfield is a Primary Special School for pupils with complex learning difficulties. This means that our pupils have a wide range of abilities and strengths and also a wide range of needs (including Autism, Speech Language and Communication Difficulties, Moderate Learning Difficulties, ADHD, and Social and Emotional Needs). In order to develop the skills and meet the needs of our pupils we are inclusive and flexible in our approaches to learning and use a variety of approaches and techniques. We want all of our pupils to enjoy school and to make good progress in communication, independence, life skills and academic learning.
We aim to ‘Have fun with our learning!’
We have an experienced, enthusiastic and caring staff. They work closely as a team and value the positive relationships that they have with pupils and their families and each other. Their expectations and aspirations for all pupils are high.
We work closely with a number of other professionals for example Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapy, and advisory teachers from the Autism Advisory or Hearing Impairment team. They help us to make sure that we are meeting the needs of all of our pupils. We also work closely with local mainstream schools to provide opportunities for pupils from different settings to work together, for example in our ‘Singing and Signing Choir’ or Maths and English workshops. This is something that pupils and staff value as we try something new and share ideas.
Our website will introduce you to our varied approaches to learning, our rich curriculum, strong values and high quality provision. If you are considering Southfield as a school for your child, please ring Linda Dyball our School Secretary to arrange a visit.
Thank you for visiting our website. I hope that you find it helpful and interesting and that it gives you a flavour of how we learn at Southfield School.
