Evie the School Dog
Southfield School has some exciting news - we have our own school dog!
Evie is a 4 year old Miniature Labradoodle, a breed which is hypoallergenic and minimises allergic reactions. She belongs to Kara Hart, our Deputy Head. Evie has completed levels 1 and 2 in obedience training and has been socialised with children, adults and other dogs from a very young age.
We have researched and seen the many benefits of having a school dog:
. Evie is a very gentle and calm dog who would have a positive impact on our children.
. Dogs teach children about responsibility and independence – by children having to remember to feed and give water to the dog it can give them a sense of importance and satisfaction that they may not get from other responsibilities.
. Dogs teach children patience – they do not always do as they are told first time!
. Dogs teach children compassion – just like us dogs feel pain and emotion.
. Dogs teach children about socialisation – by learning how to interact with a dog they can better learn how to socialise with other children.
. Dogs are fun – they greet you with a wagging tail every day and put a smile on your face, even on a bad day.
. Interaction with dogs has been proven to help reduce stress and have a calming effect.
Evie has begun to visit the school and take part in activities with our children. We will keep this section of the website updated with all the activities that we get up to with Evie.
