Magpies Autumn 2 2020
In Magpies this half term with our topic of Playlists we have been learning how music can be a stimulus for art. We have explored different genres of music including folk, classical, jazz and of course Christmas pop music. We then produced different pieces of art as a response to the music we were hearing. Our favourite activities included using paint on our tables and creating pictures and marks in the paint. We also enjoyed using chalks and pastels on black paper to create more art work. These lessons also gave us the opportunity to develop different rhythms and patterns in music as well as using different artistic mediums such as ICT, pastels, chalk, paint (but not on paper as usual).
On Children in Need day the weather was so beautiful that we took our tables onto the veranda and did our learning outside in the morning. In Science we explored how vibrations through materials and instruments created sounds we heard. In CLL we had a virtual meeting with a character from our book Ossiri and Bala Mengro. We wrote questions to ask her and then asked them to her when she met us on MS Teams. We had to take turns asking questions and listening to Ossiri and each other.
In Anti-bullying week we focussed on Acts of Kindness. We went over to the Mud Kitchen and began sorting out the resources ready to go back into school to clean or be thrown away.
We of course also began learning our songs for the Christmas Show and loved learning the Christmas Conga and dancing to it. We made props for our Christmas show which include copious amounts of brown paint to make stables and inns for Bethlehem! We followed instructions for how to make wooden spoon puppets and we used these for our Christmas show too. Some children used Christmas Playmobil toys to film a short Stop-Motion animation for part of our Christmas show.
