FOSS, short for Friends of Southfield School, is Southfield's PTA.

FOSS is a registered charity (1062790) and its aims are to:

  • foster more extended relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school
  • undertake activities that support the school and advance the education of the students attending it
  • help provide school facilities or educational items that can’t be provided from school funds

How does FOSS raise money?

School Events

Our biggest event in the school calendar is the Christmas and Summer fetes. We are also starting to hold smaller events to raise some funds for school. These include movie nights and school discos in the future.

Regular Donations

FOSS urges whoever can afford to do so, to consider making a regular monthly contribution to FOSS. Every regular donation can make a big difference and your children will benefit from the enhanced educational resources your donation will provide. If you would like to do this, please email southfield.foss@gmail.com and we will send you a donation form and a Gift Aid form – if you are a UK taxpayer this will increase every £1 you give by 25p.

Easyfundraising.org.uk

Remember, too, that you can make donations to FOSS at no cost to yourself by taking advantage of EasyFundraising for all your online shopping, including insurance renewals.

Whenever you shop with over 2,400 well-known retailers like John Lewis, Sainsburys, Halfords, Lakeland or M&S, they will donate a percentage of what you spend to us, completely FREE.

EasyFundraising has a browser plug-in that prompts you every time to visit a participating retailer’s web site.  To activate this, you must have an EasyFundraising account.  If you do not, go to easyfundraising.org.uk and follow the instructions to create an account.  When you are asked to nominate a good cause, search Southfield school.  As soon as you have done this, you’ll be invited to Get the Donation Reminder.  Click on the option and you’re away.

If you already have an EasyFundraising account, log on and review your preferences to make sure your chosen good cause is Southfield school!  Next, click on the Donation Reminder option on the menu bar.  Click the Get the Donation Reminder button and you’re ready to go.

Amazon Smile

Amazon Smile is Amazon’s charitable donation feature, its own version of EasyFundraising.  By registering for Amazon Smile, a proportion of your purchase will come to FOSS at no cost to you.

Remember, you need to change your usual Amazon bookmark to https://smile.amazon.co.uk and all purchases you make via that URL from now on will benefit FOSS.

So, what do we spend the money on?

In recent years funds have been provided for sensory gardens and a mud kitchen, cameras for the children to use around school, and an interactive mobile projector for the children. FOSS funds also subsidise activities for the children like Electric Umbrella, Boogie Monsters and Christmas pantomimes. We are currently working towards funds for 2 sunken trampolines on the small field for the children to access.

If you would like to keep up to date with all things FOSS, or if you would like to get more involved with FOSS, please email southfield.foss@gmail.com.
