  • Pupil Leadership Team

At Southfield School, we recognise the importance of children having roles and responsibility.  We believe that Pupil Voice is integral to the School Development and decision making.  The Junior Leadership Team, School Councillor and Behaviour Leaders are all part of our Pupils Leadership Team.

Our pupils are invited to stand for a Junior Leadership post. Pupils must complete an application and posters are shared across school advertising why they should be voted for by other pupils.  We encourage democracy at Southfield and every child and adult is given the opportunity to vote for who they want as part of the Junior leadership team.  Successful candidates go on to work alongside staff throughout the year. They are involved in action planning, meeting governors and visitors, school development and sharing information with the rest of the school through assemblies and presentations.

There are 4 members of the Junior leadership team, 2 leaders and 2 deputy's.

Our School Council includes a representative from each class who come to regular meetings where we discussed issues around the school and ways we can improve Southfield School.

As well, we have a representative from each class for our Behaviour Leaders who are the role models of our Behaviour Charter.  We have regular meetings where we discussed behaviour around the school and how we can ensure that everyone is following the Behaviour Charter.

Autumn 2024

We have been very busy with school council elections. We are excited to start our new academic year with our new leaders who will support on improving and enhancing Southfield School.

This term we have been thinking about how we can look after our school. We have decided that in order to look after our school, we need to pick up any litter that we see. We continue to think about how to develop our pupil voice by contributing to the DFE Consultation in regards to curriculum. We have been discussing pupil voices that the children at our school have and how we can implement them.

Spring 2025

At the start of the Spring term we completed our litter picking around the school.  We found lots of rubbish which we have discharged.  We discussed why littering is not good and the school councillors shared this information within their classes.  We have been using our pupil voice to give feedback on our subjects and how we can improve our learning in class. As well, the Junior Leadership Team and School Council met with Sarah Stevens who is from Voices of Hertfordshire.  She wanted to discuss emotions and identifying different feelings in different people.  We discussed what makes us happy and all the children came up with excellent answers on what makes them happy which included dinosaurs, tractors and Arsneal, as well as many other great ideas.  Finally, our Junior Leadership Team attended the Eastern Region SEND Network – ‘Voices of the East.’  We socialised with other children from other schools, took part in a dance session and attended a voice coaching session.

Summer 2025

We have started the term thinking about Science and discussing what makes a good Science lesson which included learning outside and using the laptops in our Science lessons.  They have put forward some suggestions on how to make Science better which has involved learning about dinosaurs and doing more experiments.

Autumn 2024

Our behaviour leaders have been encouraging their classmates to follow the behaviour charter.  They have been role models showing people how to be kind and caring, friendly, helpful, hard working, truthful and how to take care of our school.  They also have discussed the benefits of drinking water and are awarded children who are drinking their water well a sticker.  They have supported the school in creating the rules on how to behaviour during special events such as the pantomine.

Spring 2025

This term we have started by reflecting on what the behaviour charter should look like in class.  This included how we are kind and caring on the playground, how can we be friendly during our learning and how we can be hard working in assembly.  Furthermore, the Behaviour Leaders were thinking about how we follow the behaviour charter when we are on Educational Visits.  We discussed the importance of why we should follow the behaviour charter which includes keeping us and everyone safe.  The Behaviour Leaders relayed this information back to their classes.  As well, the Behaviour Leaders suggested that we could do more golf at Southfield School and thought of ways we can follow the behaviour charter during the golf sessions, which has been passed on to our PE co-ordinator.

Summer 2025

The Behaviour Leaders have started the term thinking about ways we can follow our Behaviour Charter and how we can be safe at school.  Football was discussed and how we can make this safe to ensure we are taking care of our school and being kind and caring to each other.  The Behaviour Leaders have asked for softer balls to be used to ensure everyone is safe and that adults have whistles to be the referees of the games. They also said we need to have a wider range of books for our library area that include books on Minecraft, Disney Princess and Football so we can all be hard working and learn about different subjects, we can’t wait for them to arrive!
