  • Supporting Growth Through PE and Enrichment at Southfield School

As we settle into a new school term, our pupils are continuing to adjust, develop new routines and embrace exciting opportunities for learning and personal growth. The start of the academic year is always a time of change, and we are incredibly proud of how our pupils are engaging with the wide range of experiences available to them at Southfield School.

One of the highlights of the term so far has been welcoming Joe back, who has been working closely with our children through PE sessions. His positive energy, encouragement and commitment to inclusive participation have helped pupils build confidence while developing essential physical skills.

However, the benefits of PE extend far beyond physical activity. For many of our pupils, particularly those with SEND, PE provides valuable opportunities to develop communication skills, teamwork, resilience, emotional regulation and self-confidence. Through structured activities, pupils learn to celebrate success, overcome challenges and build positive relationships with their peers. Engagement in PE is not simply about movement; it is about creating meaningful experiences that support each child's overall development and wellbeing.

At Southfield School, we recognise that every pupil learns and develops in different ways. That is why PE forms just one part of our wider enrichment offer. Throughout the year, pupils can access a variety of experiences designed to support personal growth, independence and engagement, including:

  • Swimming, promoting water confidence, physical fitness and life skills.
  • Equine Therapy, providing therapeutic opportunities to develop emotional wellbeing, communication and confidence.
  • Forest School, encouraging exploration, problem-solving, teamwork and a connection with the natural environment.
  • PE and Sports Activities, supporting physical health alongside social and emotional development.
  • Gymnastics, enhancing coordination, balance, confidence and physical development.

These are just some of the opportunities that enable our pupils to build skills that can be transferred into everyday life, helping them to become more confident, independent and resilient young people.

As the term continues, we look forward to seeing our pupils flourish through these experiences and celebrating the many successes they achieve along the way. We would like to thank Joe for his contribution so far and for helping our pupils discover that physical education is about much more than sport; it is about developing the whole child.
