Goldfinches return to gymnastics!
Wed 24 Sep 2025This half term, Children in goldfinches class have had the opportunity to experience sessions at Stortford Gymnastics Club. Children practiced using a range and developing their ability to move and balance along a range of gym equipment.

Blackbirds visits to forest school
Wed 24 Sep 2025Blackbirds have begun their adventures at Forest School. They were excited by the different activities such as ladder climbing, den building, using binoculars to identify different trees and birds. In week 1 they made necklaces from pieces of Elder wood and week 2 they made an ogre! The children have also been bug hunting and so far they have found different ladybirds and beetles.

Southfield Cubs update
Wed 24 Sep 2025Cubs at Southfield have an exciting programme planned and hope to earn lots of badges including science, first aid, cook and artist. This will involve them building towers out of marshmallows and spaghetti, learning how to put someone in the recovery position and cook a two-course meal plus lots of other skills and problem-solving activities.

Visit to the new town play park
Mon 22 Sep 2025Some of our Year 6s had the pleasure of being invited to test out the new playground in Hatfield Town. They tested out the new equipment and they delivered the Southfield time capsule that will be buried in Hatfield town. The children were very impressed with the new play equipment and they each received some treats from the builders.

Coffee mornings at Southfield restart for the new academic year...
Mon 22 Sep 2025On Tuesday 16th September, parents were invited to attend our first coffee morning of the new academic year with our focus on EHCP's.
The session was led by our SENCO and pupil champion, Laura Claxton and our new Family Liaison Officer, Jenni Ford.
In the session, we discussed how Southfield supports parents with the annual review process, what they can expect from school and what we as a school expect from parents.
We also discussed ways to further improve this as a school.
A copy of the presentation was sent to all parents.

International Day of Democracy
Mon 22 Sep 2025On Monday 15th September we celebrated International Day of Democracy, by voting for our Junior Leadership Team today.
The atmosphere in school was electric as all pupils and staff made their choice from our year 6 cohort.
The results and the celebration of our new Junior Leadership Team was announced in our WOW assembly, with badges presented by our chair of governors, Peter Hebden and our headteacher Angela O'Rourke.

Physical Education with Joe- Sports Professional
Tue 16 Sep 2025Goldfinches pupils were filled with excitement to have started their multi-sports coaching with our specialist, Joe.
This term, the pupils will be exploring equipment and focusing on throwing and catching with partners and small groups.

Welcome to the Southfield Golf Course
Thu 11 Sep 2025Southfield School in Woods Avenue welcomed Roger Chapman, two-time senior major winner and 44-year veteran of the European Tour and Legends Tour, to open the new course.
The course was built as part of Brocket Hall golf club’s “The Game Of Life For All” (GOLFA) initiative.
The initiative aims to introduce golf to individuals who typically would not have access to the sport, in particular children and those with special educational needs (SEN).
