Fri 28 Mar 2025We are delighted to share with you that Southfield School has been appointed by Hertfordshire Music Hub as a Hertfordshire Lead School.
On behalf of the Hertfordshire Music Hub board, I am delighted to confirm that Southfield School has been appointed as a Hertfordshire Lead School for music. This achievement is a testament to your unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and the outstanding efforts of your entire team.
Your successful application has demonstrated a profound commitment to fostering musical excellence and innovation, not only within your own school but also across Hertfordshire and the wider community. We are confident that by working together, music education in Hertfordshire will flourish, inspiring countless students and enriching our community with the transformative power of music.

Science week at Southfield
Thu 20 Mar 2025This week was Science week at Southfield School. Pupils have been learning to conduct experiments linked to this years theme of ‘Change and Adapt’. On Tuesday, Professor Bubbles came to Southfield to host bubble blowout workshops. Pupils took part in experiments with bubbles, making clouds and even got the chance to get into a giant bubble.

Bird of Prey visit Southfield
Tue 11 Mar 2025This week we were lucky to have ‘Birds of Prey’ visit the school. The children were able to look at and handle to owls and eagles. The children were amazed and couldn’t stop talking about their experience.

The Mayor visits Southfield
Fri 07 Mar 2025Today, we had the honour of the Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Frank Marsh join our WOW assembly.
He presented awards to Zion from Goldfinches Class and an award to our Junior Leadership Team.
Zion was nominated for an Inspirational Young Person Award with the One Welwyn Hatfield Community Award. Zion was nominated because he is an inspirational role model to his peers at Southfield in being a behaviour champion. He is an exemplary role model in following our school rules and supports his friends to also do so. Zion is the shining light of showing understanding of our rules and supporting others: Kind and Caring / Friendly / Hardworking / Takes care of his School / Helpful /Truthful. Zion portrays empathy and understanding and reminds us all of the fundamentals of how to live our lives.
As well, Southfield School received a Welwyn Hatfield for all 2025 award from the One Welwyn Hatfield Community.

Cycling at Southfield with Herts Disability Sports Foundation
Fri 28 Feb 2025Herts Disability Sports Foundation have started working with Southfield school and teaching the children how to ride bikes. Some of the children are already competent riders and are working on honing their ability to control the direction and speed of their bike. While others are working on balance and confidence. They all enjoyed themselves and we were amazed at the progress they all made in their first session. We are looking forward to next week already.
They will be working with the pupils until the end of the spring term.

Jungle book
Tue 25 Feb 2025On Tuesday children at Southfield were treat to a show of the Jungle book story by Image Musical Theatre.
The children sat and enjoyed the story and joined in with the songs. A great way to start the half term.

Art workshop for staff
Thu 13 Feb 2025This week, our Art lead Lydia, presented an Art presentation and workshop for all staff of Southfield. We discussed the plans and goals for Art moving forward and the exciting new opportunities we will have before staff took part in a practical session. Staff explored 8 different stations. Salt dough sculpture making, gross motor roller painting, string printing, galaxy drip painted, scented painting, spinner art designing, foam and food colour dyeing and bubble painting. The Southfield team were very enthusiastic and enjoyed learning and experimenting with new techniques.

Spray painting workshop
Wed 12 Feb 2025This week, we had a special visit from Benny from Street Style Surgery to teach us how to design and spray paint our own T-shirts. All Phase 2 pupil got the opportunity to participate in this activity linking to their Expressive Art and Design topic this half term of 'Clothing'. We explored colour, shading, stencilling and a new spray-painting technique to make our own customise T-shirt. Pupils had an amazing time and loved this new Art experience. Pupils all got to take their T-shirts home to wear and share with friends and families.
