  • Jo Moxham teaching multi sports

    Fri 31 Jan 2025

Some children have been learning how to warm up before exercising. The children found a gym mat to stand on to keep themselves safe when they perform their gymnastics. Jo Moxham has been teaching us how to roll correctly, how to balance and jump safely. The children can now stand safely on a bench with their feet together and land with bending their knees and on both feet. We have been learning a set of exercises and we put them together to perform a sequence of gymnastics. The children know how to end their sequence with a smart position.

Jo comes into school to support the children in a range of sports activities and invites us out to events to. Jo comes to us from Stanborough school as the School Community Sports

    Co-ordinator.

  • National Handwriting Day

    Wed 29 Jan 2025

Last week Southfield Celebrated National Handwriting Day. The children took on a challenge to use their best handwriting during an activity. They could write ‘I am a writer.’ signing their name, write a nursery rhyme or a poem of their choice. The competition was fierce making it very difficult for the judges to choose the winner. Each child received a sticker and the winners from each class received a certificate and a head teacher’s pencil. These were awarded during WoW assembly.

  • Speed stacking 2025

    Wed 29 Jan 2025

Some children from Blackbirds went to a Speed Stacking competition at Ridgeway Academy. Lots of children from the local primary schools were there too.  We had to play two types of tournaments.  One as our whole team and one boys vs girls.  To start off we had to use a three-three-three stacking formation.  Then we did the three-six-three formation.  We had to play against a timer.  It was so much fun!

It was very interesting, and the pupils asked lots of questions about her costume and the meaning behind it. Annie let the children try on her cloak and hat and they had a lovely morning.
