  • World Mental health day and our sponsored event

    Thu 10 Oct 2024

On Thursday 10th October, in recognition of world mental health day, we worked with the children on how physical activity can boost mental health.

Following on from a generous delivery of scooters recently, we decided that we would use these to host a fundraising event to raise funds to build our own onsite forest school. Having a forest school onsite for the pupils would support pupils by improving confidence, behaviour, physical and social skills, emotional wellbeing, language and communication, concentration, knowledge and understanding of the world.

We did well so far in raising funds- Southfield School - on site Forest School - JustGiving

  • Sharing afternoons

    Fri 04 Oct 2024

This week has been sharing afternoon week at Southfield. We host these once a term. It is a chance for parents and carers to come into school for the afternoon and spend time in their child's class, see what they are learning and join in some activities. It's a great way for parents to meet each other build those relationships with other families.

  • Cemex Hatfield Concrete Plant & Quarry

    Fri 20 Sep 2024

Jays have been lucky enough to go on a trip to see a working quarry and find out what happens there. They observed the process of washing and separating of the different materials that were dug out from underneath the soil. An area that had been quarried  was being returned to farm land as the soil was redistributed over the old dig site. This activity feeds into their History and Science curriculum by looking at changes over time and different materials and how they are used. We will be going to see an old quarry site that has become a nature reserve next week.

  • Voting day at Southfield school

    Thu 19 Sep 2024

Today at Southfield, it was voting day and pupil and staff were voting on who should be the head pupils and the deputy head pupils. We have 2 heads and 2 deputy's.

All year 6 pupils had met with Jackie our Assistant Head and made their campaign videos, which were then shared in assembly on Monday.

Thursday arrived and pupils were keen to vote for the new junior leadership team.

After the votes had been counted and verified, it was decided that the new 2024 junior leadership team would be Lennon and Oscar E as head pupils and Jack and Teigan would be their deputy's. All 4 of them were over the moon and keen to get started in their new roles.

  • Rubicon training day

    Thu 12 Sep 2024

Our FOSS team have been working hard and liaising with local councillors to try and raise funds to purchase some more scooters for the pupils. The children love using the scooters to support their physical and mental health. We were very lucky to receive donations from several local councillors from their locality budgets.

The company, Rubicon came in to deliver the scooters and to run some sessions with the children on scooters and skateboards. Fun was had by all on the day and we are very grateful for the support from the local councillors.

  • Blessing of the school

    Thu 12 Sep 2024

Team Rector of Bishops Hatfield - Fr Darren Collins, visited Southfield school today. Fr Darren was invited to 'Bless' the school and classes. He blessed the water of Southfield school and used a fresh Rosemary branch to scatter/spray the water over the walls. The children in classes were invited to take part in this activity, the children's faces were gleaming with joy to have the opportunity of a sensory approach that Fr Darren so warmly offered. It is lovely to have formed this link with the community and we are very excited that Fr Darren has now committed his time to visit our pupils every 6 weeks.

  • Jays class starting gymnastics

    Wed 11 Sep 2024

This term it's the turn of Jays class to go to gymnastics at a gym in Bishops Stortford. The children really enjoyed this first session, getting familiar with the equipment and following instructions. Everyone joined in and they are looking forward to the next session.
