Neurodiversity Celebration Week
Mon 16 Mar 2026Happy Neurodiversity Celebration Week!
This week, we’re proud to join schools and communities around the world in recognising and celebrating the unique strengths, talents, and perspectives of our neurodiverse pupils.
At Southfield, we believe that every child brings something valuable to our community. No matter what form of neurodiversity, we are committed to creating an environment where each child feels understood, supported, and empowered to shine.
Throughout the week, our pupils will take part in activities to celebrate the many ways our brains work differently, and brilliantly.
Thank you to our staff, children, and families for embracing and uplifting every member of our school community.

Mon 16 Mar 2026This week is National Sign Language Week here in the UK.
BSL (British Sign Language) stands as the fourth most widely used indigenous language in the UK.
Here at Southfield, we use Makaton as part of our daily communication across the School. It's used in the playground, assemblies, as well as day to day in the classrooms.

On Friday 13th March, we celebrated International Day of Mathematics. The children took part in a maths scavenger hunt, exploring the environment to discover where maths appears in everyday life.
As they searched around the school, the children looked for patterns, shapes and numbers. Some children even took photographs of mathematically interesting objects they spotted along the way!

Science Week
Wed 11 Mar 2026Investing in our pupils' learning is paramount here at Southfield. For Science Week, we gave our children the opportunity to see Science up close with a fun, all day workshop by Sublime Science, the winners of Dragons Den.
Our pupils were absolutely captivated, filling the day with “ooohs,” “aaahs,” and excited curiosity. Their enthusiasm was wonderful to see, and it’s safe to say they’ve been inspired to explore even more of the wonders of science!
PS and our flag looked awesome in the sunshine!

Expert Visit: Sue Piper
Mon 09 Mar 2026Here at Southfield School, we invest in experts, who are specialists in their field who can offer tailored advice and guidance for our children. Every child is unique, and so are their needs, which is why expert insight matters.
Today we welcomed Sue Piper onsite as one of our private specialist partners. Sue comes to see us regularly, and we always look forward to her arrival. We caught up with her today while she was doing some putting with our Magpies class, observing the children so she can provide personalised advice, knowledge, and guidance to our teaching staff for every individual learner.
Expert knowledge comes at a cost, but at Southfield, investing our resources into developing our children and supporting our staff is truly priceless.
