  • Swans go Donutting!

    Mon 02 Feb 2026

Swan class had a wonderful experience going Donutting at Gosling Sports Park! It was amazing to see how much fun we can all have together - from pulling up our donuts to going zooming down the slopes! Some children enjoyed going down at different speeds and spinning around. Even some of the adults participated! We are very much looking forward to all the adventures to come for Swan class!

  • Southfield Art Club

    Fri 30 Jan 2026

Southfield had their first session of Art club on Friday, and it went incredibly well. For our first session, we got to know our fellow artists and have a free painting session. We used paints on canvases and easels to paint whatever came to our minds. We loved sharing our paintings with each other, discussing colours and what we drew. This week we also received our Art club badges that we can wear around school and show that we are proud artists.

  • Dance sessions at Southfield

    Wed 28 Jan 2026

Woodpeckers have loved their dance lessons, explore performing, following instructions, remembering dance moves in an order and listening to the beat and the rhythm. This half term, our song has been 'Ku Fu Fighting'. We have linked actions to the music and started to piece together a whole class performance. We have also tried adding props into our performance such as ribbons.

  • My ASD & ADHD workshop for pupils.

    Thu 22 Jan 2026

We have been joined by Lisa and Diane from the charity SPACE. They have been leading a workshop entitled 'My ASD and ADHD'. Each week we have focused on a different aspect of this. In week one we talked about differences, similarities and own views. In week two, we learnt more about sensory needs how we can share these with others. In week three, we explored emotions by playing fun games. The sessions will continue for the next three weeks and will continue to explore friendships, advocacy and what makes me unique!

  • Hummingbirds at Gymnastics

    Wed 21 Jan 2026

This half term pupils in Hummingbirds class have the opportunity to visit Stortford Gymnastics for a block of sessions. Pupils have enjoyed exploring all the apparatus and are engaging well with the gymnastic coaches to develop their skills. After only two sessions we have already seen pupils’ confidence grow, we can’t wait to see what we can achieve this half term.

  • Voices of Hertfordshire

    Tue 20 Jan 2026

Our School Council and Junior Leadership Team joined The Holy Family School for another Voices of Hertfordshire session on the 20th of January.

This session focused on what makes a good friend, and our pupils were able to share ideas on a good friend being a good listener, helpful and sharing their toys.

The pupils enjoyed spending time with the children from The Holy Family and engaged well with the session.

  • World Religion Day at Southfield

    Mon 19 Jan 2026

On World Religion Day, some of the pupils learnt about how Christians believe that God created the world in 7 day. While diving deeper into what the story tells us was created on each day, children engaged with different sensory experiences, such as flowers, glow in the dark stars and shaving foam to represent clouds.

Children were then tasked with sequencing the story in pairs and re-telling it to an adult. Some other pupils revisited an activity that they really enjoyed, celebrating faiths coming together by sharing different culture food. The pupils of Southfield school have discussed and read stories from different faiths from around the world celebrating coming together as one.

We had a whole school assembly to promote the day as well.

  • Teacher Toolkit Event

    Fri 16 Jan 2026

Southfield School held its first Teacher Toolkit on Friday 16th January, welcoming a range of professionals from different settings across Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City to learn how to support pupils in their own environments.

During the session, we shared the importance of using visuals and strategies to support communication in the classroom. Attendees were given a tour of the school to see these approaches in practice.

The feedback we received was wonderful. One visitor commented: "It was lovely to walk around and see how happy the children were there. It had a real sense of calm."

We are hoping to continue supporting our community with further Teacher Toolkit training sessions in the future.

  • Christmas 2025 at Southfield

    Thu 18 Dec 2025

We had a fantastic time getting into the festive spirit this year.  Our celebrations included a delicious Christmas dinner, a visit from Santa himself, and plenty of fun at our Christmas disco. Students enjoyed sweet treats from the tuck shop and rounded off the festivities with a cosy movie afternoon. It was a wonderful way to celebrate together and spread holiday cheer across the school!

  • Jays visit to the De Havilland Museum

    Fri 12 Dec 2025

Jay’s class had an exciting and educational trip to the de Havilland Aircraft Museum. The children explored real aircraft cockpits and enjoyed pretending to be pilots, discovering what it would be like to fly a plane. They also practiced using Morse Code and learned how pilots communicated in the past. The class saw a wide range of planes and engines designed by Sir Geoffrey de Havilland, gaining a fascinating insight into the history of aviation. It was a memorable day that brought learning to life.
